Holidays are often seen as happy times, with streets full of bright lights, cheerful songs, and family gatherings. But for many of us, this season also brings feelings of grief and anxiety. Maybe you’re missing someone special, or you’re stressed about money, or you just feel the weight of holiday expectations. If this sounds like you, remember you’re not alone.

Let’s walk through some simple ways to handle these feelings of grief and anxiety.

How to Manage Anxiety

1. Write Down Your Thoughts

When your head’s a jumble with anxiety, , try jotting down your feelings. Keeping a diary isn’t just about remembering things; it’s a way to clear your mind. As you write more, you might even spot what makes you feel most anxious.

2. Stay Away from Gadgets

Phones, tablets, computers – they never stop buzzing and beeping. Sometimes, that’s too much. The light from screens can also mess with your sleep. So, maybe tonight, dive into a book or chat with your family instead of scrolling.

3. Take a Deep Breath

Feeling really wound up? Stop and take a few deep breaths. Breathe in, hold it, then let it out. It sounds simple, but it really can help when grief and anxiety feel a bit too much.

4. Exercise

You don’t need to run a marathon. A short walk, a little dance in your living room, or even some stretches can make a difference. Moving helps shake off the blues and worries.

5. Ask for Help

If you’re feeling heavy with sadness or stress, it’s okay to say, “I need to talk.” Reach out to someone you trust. If things get really tough, think about chatting with a counsellor or therapist.

6. Go Outside

There’s something soothing about nature. Whether it’s a walk on the beach or a moment in your backyard, being outside can be a breath of fresh air for your mind.

Conclusion

The holiday season has its ups and downs. While we might not be able to shake off all our feelings of grief and anxiety, these simple steps can help. Always remember, you’re allowed to feel however you feel. If you need support or a break, that’s okay. Taking care of yourself is the most important gift you can give.
